Olney Counseling Center and Leisure World Partnership
The partnership between Olney Counseling Center and Leisure World was inevitable. Approximately six months ago, one of our therapists was seeing a Leisure World resident in our Olney office who indicated that Leisure World did not have onsite mental health therapy for their residents. This resident connected us with Leisure World and the rest is history.
This collaboration is essential to the thousands of residents living on the Silver Spring campus for multiple reasons.
- Studies estimate that more than 20% of people 65 and older suffer from anxiety and depression.
- Grief and loss, loss of independence, loss associated with health issues, loss of social connections with friends, family and spouses are commonly experienced by the senior population.
- Death of loved ones increases the chances of experiencing anxiety and depression.
- Older residents are more likely to be experiencing medical conditions that may lead to increased stress and isolation.
- Physical and medical limitations may dictate in-home therapy.
- Mental Health Services Administration reports that half of Americans between the ages of 50 and 70 will be at high-risk of alcohol and other substance dependency.
- Therapy is more accepted and the stigma about therapy has diminished.
- Onsite and in-home mental health therapy increased the chances that residents will get the help they need.

Olney Counseling Center has been providing trusted, comprehensive, mental health therapy to Montgomery County and Leisure World for over thirty years.
Olney Counseling Center:
- Accepts and bills Medicare and secondary insurances.
- Provides evidence-based therapy to individuals, families, couples, and groups.

- Therapists can provide therapy onsite at the Leisure World Medical Center, in the homes of residents, at our Olney office and virtually, depending on the needs of the resident.
